Lights up.... as the bells of Notre Dame sound through the famed cathedral in fifteenth-century Paris. Quasimodo, the deformed bell-ringer who longs to be "Out There," observes all of Paris reveling in the Feast of Fools. Held captive by his devious caretaker, the archdeacon Dom Claude Frollo, he escapes for the day and joins the boisterous crowd, only to be treated cruelly by all but the beautiful gypsy, Esmeralda. Quasimodo isn't the only one captivated by her free spirit, though - the handsome Captain Phoebus and Frollo are equally enthralled. As the three vie for her attention, Frollo embarks on a mission to destroy the gypsies - and it's up to Quasimodo to save them all!
Based on the Victor Hugo novel and songs from the Disney animated feature, The Hunchback of Notre Dame showcases the film's Academy Award-nominated score, as well as new songs by Alan Menken and Stephen Schwartz. Peter Parnell's new book embraces story theatre and features verbatim passages from Hugo's gothic novel. The sweeping score and powerful story make The Hunchback of Notre Dame a truly unforgettable musical; and Broadway Training Center is thrilled to announce its Rivertowns Premiere on Friday, March 23rd at 7pm!
For 3 glorious performances, BTC will bring the magic of this timeless story to life. The stage is set for audiences to feel practically immersed in the bell tower of Irvington Town Hall. Under Jason Brantman and Fiona Santos' leadership since 2004, BTC and its students have won over 50 National Youth Arts Awards, including Outstanding Ensemble for seven years in a row. Ensemble is a word often misunderstood in the youth theater world. At BTC, and in the professional world of theater, the word Ensemble is known as an approach to acting that aims for a unified effect achieved by all members of a cast and crew working together on behalf of the play, rather than emphasizing individual performances or ones status within a production. The BTC Hunchback of Notre Dame cast is consistently working to the top of their intellect and talent alongside each other in equal partnership throughout the entirety of the process. "Our Ensemble student community has a unique dynamic. The students involved are all part of a prestigious conservatory style program where required to take yearlong technique classes in addition to a committed rehearsal process for theatrical productions," says managing director, Heather LoSchiavo. Every Ensemble candidate meets with the schools managing director for an entrance interview and program placement audition. Broadway Training Center's philosophy is unlike any other and Westchester Magazine has lauded BTC theater classes as the best in Southern Westchester while Westchester Family has named BTC "Best Children's Theater Company" and a "Top 5" dance studio.
