Combining the virtuosity of world-class artists with the energy of rock stars, PROJECT Trio is breaking down traditional ideas of chamber music. The Trio, with beat-boxing flutist Greg Pattillo, cellist Eric Stephenson, and bassist Peter Seymour will perform at SubCulture today, July 12 at 1:30pm. The performance celebrates the final concert of PROJECT: The Camp! In addition to PROJECT Trio, the event includes fifteen students who will perform repertoire consisting of compositions and arrangements written during the week of the camp. On Wednesday, July 16, the Trio will appear at Caramoor@KMA in Katonah, New York. The program features the group's original compositions and arrangements that bridge many styles of music.
PROJECT Trio has become one of the most popular instrumental ensembles of its generation, playing over 100 performances worldwide each year, as well as garnering over 79 million views and 93,000 subscribers on YouTube and playing to fans of all ages in venues around the world, from clubs to
Carnegie Hall.
The Trio's discography includes six recordings and a DVD, PROJECT Trio: Live In Concert. Their latest recording,Instrumental was released this spring and was hailed by Audiophile Audition as "an eclectic assembly of originals and covers...great fun to hear." Instrumental follows on the success of When Will Then Be Now and their catalog-spanning Random Roads Collection, which both debuted at the top of the Billboard Canadian and US classical and jazz charts. As with all of the other PROJECT Trio's recordings, both soared to the top of the iTunes charts.
In 2014-15, PROJECT Trio will be featured guest artists with the Detroit, St. Louis, Dallas, and Charleston Symphonies, among others. Their touring schedule includes concerts throughout Germany and Italy and chamber music concerts and educational residencies across the US.
Composing and arranging most of their music, the Trio has a wide range of repertoire for trio and orchestra. They are collaborating with composer Adam Schoenberg on a concerto commissioning project for the 2015/16 and 2016/17 seasons. In addition to TV and live radio appearances on WNYC's Soundcheck, and Sirius XM among others, their music can be heard in Nike and Smart Car commercials.
The Trio is dedicated to arts education, teaching the art and joy of jamming on classical instruments and opening minds to what instruments can do. With this in mind, the group created PROJECT: The Camp! focusing on improvisation and chamber music. Now in its third summer, the camp includes students from Brooklyn, the Bronx and Queens as well as Nebraska, Texas, California, Florida and North Carolina.
