New York Philharmonic Cellist Sumire Kudo To Perform With Hoff-Barthelson Music School's Festival Orchestra

Beethoven's Coriolan Overture, Haydn's Cello Concerto No. 2 in D Major, Op. 101 and Wagner's Siegfried Idyl can all be heard at Hoff-Barthelson Music School's Festival Orchestra's Winter Concert. The concert, under the direction of Jun Nakabayashi, takes place Saturday, December 9, 2017, at 7:00 p.m., at the Community Unitarian Universalist Congregation, 468 Rosedale Avenue, White Plains, NY. New York Philharmonic cellist Sumire Kudo joins the Festival Orchestra as guest soloist for the Haydn Concerto.

There is a suggested admission of $20 for adults; Students may attend free of charge.

About Sumire Kudo:

Cellist Sumire Kudo joined the New York Philharmonic in June 2006. Previously she taught at Indiana University-South Bend and was the cellist of the Avalon String Quartet. Born in Tokyo, Japan, Ms. Kudo began cello studies at age four with her father, cellist Akiyoshi Kudo. Her honors include the Hideo Saito Memorial Fund Award, which she received from the Sony Music Foundation after being chosen by Seiji Ozawa and Tsuyoshi Tsutsumi as the most promising cellist in 2005, and prizes at the Sapporo Junior Cello Competition and 62nd Japan Music Competition. Ms. Kudo is a graduate of Tokyo's Toho School and The Juilliard School.

About the Festival Orchestra:

The Festival Orchestra is a full symphony orchestra reserved for high school students at the highest level of technical ability and musical artistry. Lauded as one of the finest high school orchestras in the United States by the New York State Council on the Arts, the Festival Orchestra was selected by the New York Philharmonic as a partner in its Philharmonic Academy Jr. Program. Hoff-Barthelson is the only music school in Westchester County and the tristate area to hold this honor. Students in the Festival Orchestra benefit from this special partnership through coachings by Philharmonic members and special access to rehearsals and events.
