Ancram Opera House will present the Obie Award winning play WE'RE GONNA DIE starring Broadway veteran Maria-Christina Oliveras, most recently seen as Gina in AMELIE. Performances are August 4-5 and 11-12 at 8PM.
WE'RE GONNA DIE was written by Young Jean Lee, called by The New York Times "One of the most adventurous new playwrights to emerge on The New York scene in the past decade." The play with live music blends storytelling, music, and theater to examine with humor and insight the universal experience of life's unavoidable truths.
Maria-Christina Oliveras's extensive theater, TV and film credits include AMELIE (Broadway) TAYLOR MAC'S 24 HOUR HISTORY OF MUSIC (St. Ann's Warehouse); HERE LIES LOVE (The Public); MACHINAL (Roundabout); "Law & Order: SVU" "Nurse Jackie" "Ugly Betty" "St. Vincent" and "Time Out of Mind."
"Maria-Christina is a force of nature," said Paul Ricciardi, Co-Director of Ancram Opera House. "Her range and ability are so impressive, and her talents will be a great gift to our performance hall."
"We are thrilled to produce a work by Young Jean Lee," said Jeff Mousseau, who is directing the production and is also Co-Director of Ancram Opera House. "The play hits a lot of areas for us. It's a daring take on a human experience that we are often reluctant to discuss. And by tackling the subject head on, the show is bracing yet consoling and, ultimately, cathartic. It works incredibly well in our space, which is known for its acoustics and its intimacy."
