The White Plains Performing Arts Center is dedicated to the presentation and production of a full spectrum of performing arts events for the City of White Plains and the surrounding communities. With our Mainstage Season and First Look reading series, we are committed to the development of original musicals and plays by both established and emerging playwrights, composers and lyricists, offering audiences an exciting and unique opportunity to be actively engaged in the creation of new works.
This year, with a new Mainstage Season under the creative leadership of the award-winning team of Annette Jolles, Laurence Holzman and Felicia Needleman, WPPAC will become Westchester's first and only regional theatre devoted to the development of new musicals and plays. The inaugural 2010-2011 season will consist of 3 musicals and 2 plays. The theatre will also be a creative lab featuring Conversations at 7, an interactive celebrity interview series, and First Look, a Sunday evening series of readings of brand new works. In addition, WPPAC will continue to present its popular Broadway Concert Series. Finally, WPPAC remains home to a highly successful youth Conservatory Theatre program, a professional training and presentation program for theatrical artists between the ages of 10-25.
WPPAC is also available to local arts organizations and groups to rent for their performances or meetings. Some organizations that have rented the theatre include: Rodgers & Hammerstein Organization; Playgroup Theatre Company, the Music Conservatory of Westchester Mentoring Orchestra and Summer Theatre Program; Berkeley College New Student Orientation and Carlos Jimenez Latin Jazz Concert. The WPPAC has also hosted benefit concerts for the Ronald McDonald House; Pace Women's Justice Center, St. Joseph's Medical Center, and Tsunami & Haitian Relief organized by the City of White Plains Youth Bureau. The organizations that rent the theatre not only secure a professional venue for their event but also provide a diverse roster of artists and opportunities for many culturally specific communities to participate in programs at WPPAC.
