It's Monty Python meets Jules Verne when the Penguin Rep Theatre presents AROUND THE WORLD IN 80 DAYS, a comedy by Mark Brown, August 13 through September 5 in Stony Point, New York.

Directed by Thomas Caruso who staged OVER THE TAVERN earlier this season, AROUND THE WORLD is the story of Phileas Fogg and his trusty servant as they travel by train, steamer and elephant, through typhoons, and against the clock in a race around the globe to win a bet.

The New York Times described MR. Brown's adaptation of Jules Verne's classic novel as "unabashedly theatrical" and "smart enough to make sophisticated adults laugh out loud and shamelessly silly enough to keep children entertained".

AROUND THE WORLD features a cast of five including Penguin Rep veteran Sam Guncler (A STRANGE AND SEPARATE PEOPLE, HALF AND HALF and THE GOLDMAN PROJECT), as Phileas Fogg. The cast also includes Michael Keyloun, who appeared regionally in Alfred Hitchcock'S THE 39 STEPS, IS HE DEAD? and THE PRODUCERS; Bushra Laskar, an actress and playwright who began her training at LAMDA in her native London and continued at the Stella Adler Studio in New York; Hillel Meltzer, whose credits include JUMPERS and SCAPIN on Broadway and A DYBBUK and STOMP Off Broadway; and Andy Prosky, who was seen on Broadway in KING LEAR starring Christopher Plummer and Off Broadway in MERCHANT OF VENICE, MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING and ROMEO AND JULIET.

The production team for AROUND THE WORLD IN 80 DAYS includes designers Joseph J. Egan (sets), Patricia E. Doherty (costumes), Zachary Spitzer (lights), and Chris Rummel (sound); and stage manager Yumi Matsuura.

Performances of AROUND THE WORLD IN 80 DAYS are scheduled Thursdays and Fridays at 8:00 pm, Saturdays (2 shows) at 4:00 pm and 8:00 pm, and Sunday matinees at 2:00 pm at Penguin Rep's intimate, 108-seat theatre located at 7 Crickettown Road in Stony Point (Rockland County), New York.

Tickets are $33 ($16.50 for young people 21 and younger) and can be purchased on-line at www.penguinrep.org or by phone at 845-786-2873. A limited number of discount tickets ($16.50) are available for a special weekday matinee performance on Friday, August 13 at 2:00 pm.

To order tickets or get more information, visit Penguin Rep's website at www.penguinrep.org or call 845-786-2873.

Penguin Rep Theatre, Rockland County's first year-round, non-profit professional theatre, was founded in 1977 in a century-old hay barn converted to a theatre, by artistic director Joe Brancato and Fran Newman-McCarthy, Treasurer of the Board of Trustees.

The Equity theatre's 2010 season began with sold-out runs of Tom Dudzick's OVER THE TAVERN and Steven Dietz's SHOOTING STAR. Upcoming is the New York premiere of MRS. MANNERLY, a new comedy by Jeffrey Hatcher, directed by Joe Brancato, October 1 through October 24.
