ARC Stages' THE LIGHT IN THE PIAZZA Begins Today

ARC Stages presents the 2005 Tony Award-winning musical, The Light in the Piazza, opening today, March 20th at 8pm and continuing performances till March 29th. The Light in the Piazza is a musical with a book by Craig Lucas and music and lyrics byAdam Guettel. Based on a novella by Elizabeth Spencer, the story is set in the 1950s and revolves around Margaret Johnson, a wealthySouthern woman and her developmentally stalled daughter, Clara, who spend a summer together in Italy. When Clara falls in love with a young Italian man, Margaret is forced to reconsider not only Clara's future, but her own deep seated hopes and regrets as well.

The production is directed by Ann Shankman, musical production by Marcus Baker and features beautiful chamber orchestrations to provide for an intimate and romantic evening.

"Light in the Piazza" stars Mario Castro as "Fabrizio Naccarelli" who falls for "Clara Johnson" played by Emma Ruck in a whirlwind romance through Italy with her mother, "Margaret Johnson" played by Terry Rakov, in the center of it all. The cast also includes Jeff Stone as "Signor Naccarelli," Jeff Raab as "Guiseppe Naccarelli," Daniele Hager as "Franca Naccarelli," Laura Stelman Jaeger as "Signora Naccarelli," & David Samel as "Roy Johnson." The ensemble includes Nancy Jane Blake, Emma Frank, Robyn O'Brien, Jessi St. George, Kyle LaGrutta, & Christopher Oldi as the "Priest."
