The Mystery of Edwin Drood
May 11, 12, 13 & 18, 19, 20
Based loosely on Charles Dickens’ final, unfinished novel, The Mystery of Edwin Drood, winner of the Tony Award for Best Musical in 1986, is a hilarious play-within-a-play set simultaneously in the town of Chesterham, England and in the 19th century Music Hall Royale. The “players” of the Music Hall are staging The Mystery of Edwin Drood, a thrilling melodrama full of romance, intrigue, secrets and lies, and all centering on the figure of young Edwin Drood. Who could have done Drood harm? The sinister John Jasper, music master of the innocent young Rosa Bud? Princess Puffer, the world-weary proprietress of a notorious opium den, who harbors a dark secret and knows the wages of sin? The volcanic Neville Landless and his mysterious sister Helena, newly arrived from Ceylon? The redoubtable Reverend Crisparkle, a man whose thoughts are not always directed heavenward? Or some even more preposterous choice? It’s up to YOU, the audience, to decide, after a rollicking evening of song, dance and rowdy fun in the best Music Hall tradition.
Our performances start at 7:30pm on Fridays and Saturdays, and at 2:00pm on Sundays. Please arrive at least 10 minutes prior to curtain time.
