Eden Casteel was a frustrated teenage soprano in Ohio whose life was forever changed by a Madeline Kahn beer commercial (it was Michelob). In 30 seconds, Casteel knew she wanted to be like Kahn: ”Wealthy, glamorous, with an unbelieveable singing voice.” (Two out of three ain’t bad!) But few knew about the challenges Kahn faced onstage and off, including rocky relationships, Broadway backstabbers, and insecurity that loomed as large as her talent.
Kahn, of course, was the beloved star of some of Mel Brooks' most popular movies (Blazing Saddles, Young Frankenstein). Filled with iconic songs, compelling stories, and hilarious anectdotes, KAHN ARTIST: MADELINE AND ME is an intimate look at the trials and triumphs of both Kahn and Casteel.
Presented on Friday April 5, 7pm, at the Fellowship Hall at Kingston Congregational Church, 2610 Kingstown Road, Kingston RI, directly across from The University of Rhode Island. A singers' open mic follows the intermission after performance. Bring your sheet music or ask Jim or Eden to accompany you on favorite song!
With Jim Rice, piano. Directed by Faith Prince, cowritten with Roderick Ferguson, with musical arrangements by Jim Rice and Bobby Peaco.
KCC's Fellowship Hall is spacious and comfortable, easily accessible by all patrons, with plenty of free parking. Everyone who walks in here says, "I can't believe how GOOD music sounds in here." It's the Goldilocks of venues -- not too small, not too big, not too loud and not too quiet. It's just right! Drinks and snacks are available for purchase. Proceeds from KCC Koncessions benefit The Rhody Outpost anti-hunger initiative. Bring a canned good to donate; KCC collects on behalf of The 1of52 Hunger Network.
