The Wilbury Theatre Group announces the New England premiere of Sarah Kane's highly-acclaimed landmark play, Blasted. Directed by Wilbury Group Artistic Director Josh Short and featuring Amber Kelly (Gruesome Playground Injuries), Jo-án Peralta (The Elaborate Entrance of Chad Deity), and Boston-based actor Alexander Cook, Sarah Kane's darkly humorous and controversial work is an unparalleled examination of how the crimes of a destructive society at home echo into the horrors of wars abroad.
Blasted runs March 13 through April 5 at The Wilbury Theatre Group, 393 Broad Street, Providence RI. Tickets $15-$20, with discounts available for subscribers, seniors, and students. BLASTED contains extremely graphic acts of violence. Audience discretion strongly advised. For tickets or more information, 401-400-7100 or thewilburygroup.org.
Set in a luxurious hotel in Leeds, Blasted introduces audiences to Ian, a racist and foul-mouthed middle-aged journalist, as he tries to seduce and later rapes Cate, an innocent, simple-minded young woman from his past. From its opening in a naturalistic -though troubling- world, the play takes on different, nightmarish dimensions when the audience is transported to the same hotel room in the middle of civil war in an unnamed third world and a soldier, appears in the room. What follows is Kane's unforgettable illustration of the parallels between emotional and physical violence, and domestic violence and civil wars raging war abroad.Videos
