The Wilbury Theatre Group's new works development program Studio W presents the world premiere of The Pleiades, by Darcie Dennigan. Presented in a limited run October 10-13, The Pleiades is the tragic, and often hilarious, story of six sisters trying to re-connect after death. Directed by Meredith Healy and Josh Short with music direction by Jason Quinn, Dennigan's writing takes audiences on a fantastical journey from a ramshackle house on the edge of a lake, through Death School, into the afterlife, and beyond.
"Darcie has been well-known as a talented poet and playwright in writing circles for years," says Wilbury Artistic Director Josh Short. "I've had the pleasure of seeing her work evolve in the Providence Fringe Festival over the years, and am always blown away by the humor and sense of wonderment she brings to all of her work. We're so glad to be able to work on this piece with her, and look forward to sharing her unique vision with our audiences this October."
THE PLEIADES is presented October 10-13, 2018 at The Wilbury Theatre Group, 40 Sonoma Court, Providence RI. Tickets are $10-$20. Call 401.400.7100 or visit online at thewilburygroup.org/pleiades
The Pleiades is a nimble, fantastical voyage through the lives--and deaths--of six sisters. When one sister dies, the remaining ones urgently try to contact her through supernatural instruments, domestic rituals, and the secret language of siblings. And then there is the middle sister, Pip, who can walk between worlds, and who starts a Death School to help the living communicate with the dead. Swerving through scenes from the sisters' life and afterlife, The Pleiades asks what it means to be forever part of a constellation. Playwright Darcie Dennigan's view of eternity is rich with mystery and dark humor.
