The Sandra Feinstein-Gamm Theatre (The Gamm) closes its 30th anniversary season with David Adjmi's MARIE ANTOINETTE. A tragicomedy rich in historical context and contemporary culture, MARIE ANTOINETTE profiles the famously iconic and controversial queen of France-from her growing celebrity to her ultimate demise at the hands of those who once exalted her...with dramatic parallels between the disenfranchised of 18th-century France and America today. Madeleine Lambert (Anne Boleyn in Anne Boleyn) will take on the role of Marie in a production directed by Rachel Walshe, who last directed Good People at The Gamm.
MARIE ANTOINETTE runs from April 30 through May 31 at The Gamm Theatre, 172 Exchange St., Pawtucket, RI. Tickets are $41 and $49 (depending on day/time); preview performances (April 30-May 3) just $30. Call 401-723-4266 or order online at gammtheatre.org.
Marie's subjects used to love her--extravagant haute couture, three-foot-tall wigs, and all! But times are changing. A government in fiscal crisis and a populace railing against the super-rich mean France's frivolous and fashionable teen queen may soon be going out of style. From idle court gossip to gruesome beheading, American playwright David Adjmi's satirical new comedy is a fantastical slice in the life of the infamous monarch--a woman both captive and casualty of her unchecked appetites. Laugh-out-loud funny and hauntingly timely, MARIE ANTOINETTE reflects America today through the lens of 18th-century France.
