The Sandra Feinstein-Gamm Theatre has announced an endowment gift of $50,000 from David M. Wax, the theater's former board president and managing director, and his wife, Elaine Arden Calì. The gift will establish a permanent fund to benefit the long-term goals of The Gamm, ensure the organization's financial security, and generate general annual operating income in support of artistic and educational programming.
The Gamm will honor Mr. Wax for his outstanding commitment to the arts at its annual fundraiser on Monday, March 30 at the Center by the Blackstone in Pawtucket. The Gamm's 30th anniversary celebration will showcase 12 years of professional theater in Pawtucket with a live performance. Rhode Island's own Amica Insurance is the presenting sponsor.
Mr. Wax said, "How crucially important an income-generating endowment can be to an organization's vitality and durability was clear to me throughout my years in the non-profit arts world, and now to help The Gamm create this fund is a joy and privilege."
Gamm Board President Leon Boghossian III said, "David has once again shown us all how committed he is to The Gamm and the arts community in general. He is truly an inspiring human being from whom I have learned so much. I hope someday to continue his leadership by adding to The Gamm's endowment that he has now jumpstarted."
Gamm Managing Director Oliver Dow added, "I am humbled by this tremendous gift from David. He has been a treasure for The Gamm, and his love for the performing arts is evident through his visionary leadership here and in a career that spans four decades. I can only hope that his gift spurs others to make the same kind of lasting commitment."
Mr. Wax served as The Gamm's managing director from 2012-2014 and president of the board from 2011-2012. He joined The Gamm board in 2008. His work with symphony orchestras included the executive directorships of the Rhode Island Philharmonic (2001-2008) and the Houston Symphony (1987-2000), and management positions with the Minnesota Orchestra and the Pittsburgh, Sacramento, and North Carolina symphonies. He has served on the Rhode Island State Council for the Arts since 2008, is a past board member of the Rhode Island Citizens for the Arts, and has sung in the bass section of the Providence Singers since 2002.
