Theatre by the Sea has announced its summer 2012 season. The season includes FOREVER PLAID, THE SOUND OF MUSIC, 9 TO 5, and HOW TO SUCCEED IN BUSINESS WITHOUT REALLY TRYING.

Ocean State Theatre Company, Inc., a Rhode Island 501(c)(3) organization, is proud to be entering its fifth full season as the resident producing company at the historic Theatre By The Sea, a 500 seat summer stock barn theatre, located 1/4 mile from the Rhode Island shore. In 2012, OSTC is looking forward to continuing the 78 year tradition of presenting live theatre in South County.

Detailed descriptions of the 2012 season are below:

Forever Plaid
June 1 - June 17 (Preview Performances May 30 & 31)
One of the most popular and successful musicals in recent memory, this deliciously goofy revue centers on four young, eager male singers killed in a car crash in the 1950s on the way to their first big concert, and now miraculously revived for the posthumous chance to fulfill their dreams and perform the show that never was. The “Plaids” sing great nostalgic pop hits of the ‘50s in the closest of harmony, squabble boyishly over the smallest intonations, and execute charmingly outlandish choreography with over-zealous precision.

The Sound of Music
June 22 - July 14 (Preview Performances June 20 & 21)
Set in Austria in 1938, this Rodgers and Hammerstein musical follows the adventures of a highspirited young woman who is ill-fitted for the life of the convent. Sent to serve as governess for the seven children of a widowed naval officer, Maria wins their hearts (and his) with her exuberant love of life. The family's narrow escape from the Nazis, over the mountains to Switzerland on the eve of World War II, is one of the most thrilling and inspirational finales ever presented onstage. This beloved family classic features a glorious score including “Do Re Mi,” “My Favorite Things,” “Sixteen Going on Seventeen,” “Climb Ev’ry Mountain.” and “The Sound of Music.”

9 to 5: The Musical
July 20 - August 11 (Preview Performances July 18 & 19)
Rhode Island Premiere! The hilarious story of friendship and revenge in the Rolodex era. 9 to 5: The Musical tells the story of three unlikely friends who conspire to take control of their company and learn there's nothing they can't do -- even in a man's world. Outrageous, thought-provoking and even a little romantic, 9 to 5: The Musical is about teaming up and taking care of business... it's about getting credit and getting even...

How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying
August 17 – September 2 (Preview Performances August 15 & 16)
From the authors of Guys and Dolls comes one of the most delightfully irreverent musicals of all time. A satire of big business and all it holds sacred, How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying follows the rise of J. Pierrepont Finch, who uses a little handbook called "How To Succeed In Business Without Really Trying" to climb the corporate ladder from lowly window washer to high-powered executive, tackling such familiar but potent dangers as the aggressively compliant "company man," the boss' whiny, nepotistic nephew, the office party, backstabbing co-workers, caffeine addiction and, of course, true love
