"The Game's Afoot" by Ken Ludwig is opening March 22 at the Granite Theatre.

Producer/ Artistic Director for the theatre is David Jepson. "The Game's Afoot" is a throwback to the mystery dramas that were so popular on the English and American stages from the early 1900's through the late 1970's. The show runs March 22 - April 7, 2019.

It is a story not specifically about Sherlock Holmes but about Connecticut native William Gillette who was selected to portray Holmes with Arthur Conan Doyle's approval. Gillette portrayed Sherlock Holmes in over 1300 performances and he embodied some of the facets of the character that is still utilized today in modern interpretations of the role. His Gillette Castle is an iconic landmark and state park in Haddam, Connecticut and the play "The Game's Afoot" is set 3 months after the construction of his Castle.

It is December 1936 and Broadway star William Gillette, admired the world over for his leading role in the play Sherlock Holmes, has invited his fellow cast members to his Connecticut castle for a weekend of revelry. But when one of the guests is stabbed to death, the festivities in this isolated house of tricks and mirrors quickly turn dangerous. It is then up to Gillette himself, as he assumes the persona of his beloved Holmes, to track down the killer before the next victim appears. The danger and hilarity are non-stop.

Vincent Lupino (, RI) directs. The cast features Marcus Fisk (Mystic, CT), Marc Vakassian (Westerly, RI), Lee Rush (Cranston, RI), Paula Glen (Westerly, RI), Judy George (Westerly, RI), Karen Gail Kessler (Barrington, RI), Warren Usey (Westerly, RI) and Chelsea Ordner (Westerly, RI).

Patrons may enjoy a selection of wines, beers and soft drinks from the theatre's cash bar at all performances in the comfortable, spacious lobby of the beautifully refurbished, historic theatre. Opening nights of each new production feature an opportunity to share "Pizza with the Cast" and mixer of patrons and performers.
