The Courthouse Center For The Arts is honored to present the first performance of our opera series with Seymour Barab's Little Red Riding Hood. This operetta is a delightful adaptation of the family classic sung by three singers: a soprano, a mezzo soprano, and a baritone. Each performer will be playing several roles while accompanied by piano.
In this version of the opera, the scary Wolf is transformed into a comic character, Granny becomes a kvetchy old lady who is somewhat absent-minded, and the title character is sweet, charming and sings like an angel. Important lessons are learned, such as "Don't talk to strangers" and "Do your homework." Barab leaves in the perfect mix and amount of the classic story--"But Grandmother what big eyes you have!" And even though you and your kids know how the story's supposed to end, you will sit on the edge of your chairs in anticipation. As parents we owe Seymour Barab a round of applause, here is a man who can present opera for children and make it work.
This the perfect show for families to enjoy together and a wonderful way to introduce the kids to opera and classical music. The Courthouse Center For The Arts is located at 3481 Kingstown Rd in West Kingston, RI. For more information or to purchase tickets call (401) 782-1018 x 14 or visit www.courthousearts.org.
