Rhode Island Stage Ensemble Announces THE SNOW QUEEN Image

Rhode Island Stage Ensemble, one of the Ocean State's premier community theater companies, is thrilled to announce our second annual "RISE Jr." production - THE SNOW QUEEN, based on the story by Hans Christian Andersen. An all-youth cast hailing from Woonsocket, Coventry, Whitinsville, Warwick, and other towns from around the RI/MA region will bring the show to life in February, 2019.

One of the most beautiful of all fairy tales, the timeless appeal of "The Snow Queen" - the loose inspiration for Disney's FROZEN - lies in persuading us that life is truly magical. The wicked Snow Queen casts her icy spell on the world, turns young Kay's heart to ice and takes him away as her eternal prisoner to her Ice Palace at the very top of the world. Gerda, Kay's friend, must journey north, brave many dangers, in her attempt to save Kay and break Winter's grip. She leads the audience through terrifying ordeals as well as endless fun and nonsense, encountering talking ravens, the evil Cobweb Spider, a prince and princess, a band of robbers, greedy polar bears and a brave reindeer who carries Gerda across the artic wastes. This is a wonderful, fast-paced adventure story, suitable for all ages.

The RISE Jr. program, entering its second year, provides children and teens with powerful theatrical experiences under the mentorship of professional directors, educators, designers and technicians. Last year's production, Charlotte's Web, enchanted family audiences from throughout the region.
