Rhode Island College's Artist-in-Residence, pianist Judith Lynn Stillman and The Rhode Island Philharmonic Orchestra principal members Ian Greitzer, Charles Dimmick, Abigail Cross and Aristides Rivas will perform works by Haydn, Mozart and Beethoven on November 5 at 8:00pm at the Carter Center for Music, Rhode Island Philharmonic Music School in East Providence.

About the Artist

Judith Lynn Stillman has been hailed by the press as "a poetess of the piano" and by nine-time Grammy winner Wynton Marsalis as "a rare find, a remarkable virtuoso, a consummate artist." Stillman, an internationally renowned pianist, composer, choral conductor and artist-teacher, holds Bachelor's, Master's and Doctoral degrees from The Juilliard School, where she received the Dethier Prize for Outstanding Pianist and won the Juilliard Concerto Competition.

A native New Yorker who began playing the piano at age three, winner of 18 competitions and recipient of the First Pell Award in the Arts, Stillman is the Artist- in-Residence and a Professor of Music at Rhode Island College.

Stillman's discography includes recordings on SONY, North Star ("Christmas Remembered," the first, sold over 200,000 copies and features Stillman's arrangements performed by members of the NY Philharmonic and Boston Symphony), guest artist with the Borromeo Quartet on their "Living Archive Series," the recent release "Viennese Gems," with famed clarinetist Richard Stoltzman and the Muir Quartet's cellist Michael Reynolds, and the iconic duo album with Wynton Marsalis on Sony Classical, "On the Twentieth Century," which was on the Top Ten of the Billboard Charts.

A frequent performer on radio and television, Public Radio Music Month's Featured Artist, and creator of feature programs for RI-PBS TV, Stillman has served as Music Director for Operafestival di Roma in Italy. In addition to performing in world premieres at Avery Fisher Hall and Alice Tully Hall, and at music festivals including Marlboro, Tanglewood, Grand Teton, Yale-at-Norfolk, Lancaster, Mainly Mozart, and at festivals in Switzerland, France, Holland, Italy, Costa Rica and Israel, Stillman was visiting Artist-in- Residence in China, Russia and the Czech Republic at principal music academies including Beijing's Central Conservatory and the Prague Conservatory.

Recent season highlights include: soloist in Beethoven's "Emperor" Concerto with the Pro Arte Chamber Orchestra at Sanders Theatre at Harvard University, the premiere of Stillman's interdisciplinary events "ArtsAlive!," with musical interpretations and visual art created simultaneously on stage, a WGBH broadcast on "Drive Time Live" with host Kathy Fuller, and the launching of the Judith Lynn Stillman channel on Apple's iTunes Radio. Stillman composed "Phoenix from the Ashes" which was premiered by New York Metropolitan Opera soprano Lori Phillips with Stillman at the piano, and which was the centerpiece of the Holocaust Remembrance Day commemorative event at the Czech Embassy in Washington, DC.
