Providence dance artist Jamie Arnold joins the Trinity Rep faculty this fall bringing her style to Musical Theater Dance. In this class, students will learn fundamental dance skills and experience an array of musical theater performance styles. We will learn existing sequences of classic choreography and create original combinations and routines, delving into the characters and plot lines that inspire dance on stage. September 19 - November 7, Thursdays from 4-5:30PM, tuition is $275. Visit www.trinityrep.com/education to register.
Jamie Arnold is a local Rhode Islander who began dance training at three years old through Carolyn Dutra Dance Studio in Warwick where she studied for 10 years. She graduated college with an A.A. in Liberal Arts from CCRI and studied painting at the Marchutz School of Art in France during that same year where she visited sites that artists Van Gogh and Cezanne lived and worked. Jamie received her B.A. in Dance from RIC and attended the American Dance Festival on a scholarship that summer. She has also attended the Bates Dance Festival. Jamie has been a certified Kripalu yoga teacher for two years and believes that yoga is a true healer in a myriad of ways. She teaches various movement classes to local children including basic movement classes through Chance to Dance, modern dance at Festival Ballet and a choreographic processes workshop at the JSEC High School in Providence. Jamie has danced professionally with many local choreographers including Katie McNamara, Betsy Miller, Cecilia Seaward, Stephanie Turner and Melody Ruffin Ward. Jamie is the co-director, choreographer and dancer of a local company called Urban Coastal Dance where the goals aim to promote health and wellness, environmental awareness and community involvement through dance, education and performance. Her most recent artistic pursuit is being a member of Heather Ahern's modern Dance Company, Aerplaye.
High school students are invited to expand their theatrical horizons in the Playreading Aloud program. Students meet at the theater to learn about, read, and discuss plays by Tony Kushner, Sarah Ruhl, Neil Simon, Caryl Churchill, Jose Rivera, Christopher Durang, David Mamet, Paula Vogel, Connie Congdon, and many more! Taught by Trinity Rep teaching artists. Begins September, 2013. Wednesdays, 3pm, free. Contact education@trinityrep.com to register.
For students more interested in focusing the spotlight instead of being in it, we have The Trinity Technicians! The Trinity Technicians will meet several times throughout the year. Taught by Trinity Rep teaching artists. $100 for the season includes all show tickets, grades 7-12. Contacteducation@trinityrep.com to register.
