Providence Playwright Returns Home To Premiere New Play At FRINGEPVD Image

Rhode Island native Gino DiIorio returns home to premiere his new play "Three Exits" at the Providence Fringe Festival this August. On the heels of a string of successful Off Broadway and regional theater productions, this marks the Providence playwright's first ever staging of his work in his home state.

Gino divides his time between New York City and Worcester MA, where he is the theater department faculty chair at Clark University. He discovered his passion for theater as a teenager growing up in Providence. Gino proudly declares "I'm a Project Discovery kid. North Providence High School would make trips sometimes twice a month to see shows at Trinity Rep and I remember one of the first was David Mamet's "A Life in the Theatre" with Richard Kneeland. From that point on, I was pretty much hooked!"

Gino's numerous writing awards include the E. Desmond Lee Playwriting Prize, the Julie Harris Award, the BBC International Playwriting Prize, and the Firehouse Theatre's Great American New Play Award. His play Sam and Dede or My Dinner with Andre the Giant was given an Off Broadway production at 59 East 59 in March of 2017 and is now available through Dramatists Play Service. Another new play Crib, is being produced this summer at Playhouse in the Square in Memphis Tennessee. A member of the Dramatists Guild you can find more about Gino at: www.ginodiiorio.com

About The Play
An artistic reunion of sorts between Gino and Boston-based actresses Karin Trachtenberg and Mary Potts Dennis (all three attended Clark University together), Three Exits was conceived after years of nagging to write something for his college buddies. This raw and personal play takes an uncompromising look at the intersection of three flawed, fierce and fragile lives. Karen (the ex-lover), Mary (the ex-wife), and Adam (the ex-husband), reunite to figure out what happened, to remember the good and bad, but mostly to put the whole damn thing to rest.

They are joined by up and coming actor Jose Guns Alves, who lives in Rhode Island. Having garnered film roles in Proud Mary, Daddy's Home 2 and various television series such as Gotham and Homeland, carving time out from lucrative film/television work to tread the boards isn't easy. But Jose states "After reading Gino's play, I knew it was something I needed to do. It's said that all true actors come from the theater; so in the pursuit of being the best actor I can be, I wanted to get back to the stage". More about Jose at: josegunsalves.com
