Providence Ballet Theatre is proud to present Twas the Night Before Christmas, our holiday ballet performance for school students (December 13 &14) and the public (December 14th)evening. Based on the classic tale, this ballet will enchant all ages. The ballet is choreographed and directed by Rhode Island native Eva Marie Pacheco. Performed at Roberts Hall at Rhode Island College, tickets for the public performance can be purchased from the Rhode Island College Box Office. School students from across Rhode Island attend the December 13th and 14th matinee performances for a discounted rate through Providence Ballet Theatre.
Artistic Director, Eva Marie Pacheco has collaborated with generous sponsors as well as private donors to achieve her dream: for every school child to attend live theatre. Growing up in Providence, it was important to Pacheco to give Providence students the same opportunity that many other Rhode Island students have. Last year she gave over 1,500 tickets to those schools, free of cost. Other schools enjoy the performance at a deeply discounted rate. This is a wonderful chance to experience classical music and professional ballet.
The Providence Ballet Theatre is comprised of the professional company and junior company. Many professional members are native Rhode Islanders who have trained and performed both here and across the nation. The Providence Youth Ballet members audition for the performance, taking on roles of snowflakes, sugar plums, spice drops and children. Many long hours of rehearsals are required to bring the magic to life!
It is Eva Marie Pacheco's dream to delight and inspire children to experience, enjoy and participate in the creative performance arts. You never know what spark you might ignite with these school performances. It's often where dreams begin that children become inspired to join in the Arts!
Providence Ballet also has a satellite studio in East Greenwich on Main Street. Several local children will be performing this December - so look for familiar faces amongst the cast!
About Providence Ballet Theatre
Providence Ballet Theatre is the third branch of an organization stemming from the original Providence Ballet School. The school was founded in1995 by Eva Marie Pacheco. In 2003 she created the Providence Youth Ballet to provide performing opportunities for local students. In 2008, the not-for-profit professional Providence Ballet Theatre made its debut. Since then, performances by the Providence Ballet Theatre have included original productions such as "'Twas the Night Before Christmas," an original production of "Hansel and Gretel", "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs", "The Magic Box" a collaboration between Providence Ballet Theatre , RI School of Design and local composers. Participation in local Arts Festivals. We continue to bring new, exciting and entertaining dance to our community.
The Providence Ballet school provides rigorous classical ballet and modern dance training in a nurturing environment. Our students come from all over the state, as well as from our neighborhood in South Providence. Our satellite school in East Greenwich opened in 1998, allowing us to provide our arts education to an even greater number of students. No one is ever turned away for financial reasons; each year approximately five percent of our dance classes are free to any student who demonstrates need. Our Providence studio has become a vibrant artistic hub in an otherwise struggling part of the city. Our school has also become a pipeline sending students onto perform with the Providence Youth Ballet, Providence Ballet Theatre Jr. Company and the Providence Ballet Theatre.
