With "Taking Sides" by Ron Harwood the Granite Theatre is stretching into even greater, more challenging contemporary works of theatre allowing the audience to enjoy the depth of artistic experience of great theatre and the breadth of skills of our performers. It's a riveting show guaranteed to remain the topic of conversation for all audiences. Post-show the audience can meet the actors and director to discuss this thought provoking piece of theatre. Producer/ Artistic Director for the theatre is David Jepson. The performances are as follows:

TAKING SIDES takes place in the American Zone of occupied Berlin, in 1946. It is here the American portion of the De-Nazification Tribunal take over the questioning of Wilhelm Furtwängler, one of the outstanding conductors of his time. As the terrors of Nazism spread, many of Furtwängler's colleagues fled the country, but Furtwängler mysteriously chose to stay. Did he stay to do as much good as possible in the face of evil or did he stay to serve Hitler? Little is known of the motives and methods of the Tribunal, which is the focus of TAKING SIDES. What is known is that Furtwängler was humiliated, pursued and, even after his acquittal, disinformation followed him. This may or may not have been justified-it all depends on the side you take. "A brave, wise and deeply moving play delineating the confrontation between culture, and power, between art and politics, between irresponsible freedom and responsible compromise. A gripping moral challenge in a c*cksure and self-seeking age." -London Sunday Times.

Jude Pescatello (Groton, CT) directs the show. The cast features, Marcus Fisk (Waterford, CT), Greg Bliven (Westerly, RI), Jim Auger (No. Kingstown, RI), Ryan Sekac (Westerly, RI), Courtney Littlefield (Groton, CT) and Genevra Stewart (Ea. Greenwich, RI).

Patrons may enjoy a selection of wines, beers and soft drinks from the theatre's cash bar at all performances in the comfortable, spacious lobby of the beautifully refurbished, historic theatre. Opening nights of each new production feature an opportunity to share "Pizza with the Cast" and a mixer of patrons and performers.
