Double, double toil and trouble: Shakespeare's spooky tragedy, Macbeth, is coming to the Contemporary Theater Company just in time for Halloween, running now through November 12. BroadwayWorld has a first look at the cast in action below!

After tackling Comedy of Errors and Antony and Cleopatra this summer in the company's new patio performance series Shakespeare on the Saugatucket, the Bard takes center stage in the Contemporary Theater Company's fall mainstage play, Macbeth.

"Macbeth is one of the most renowned plays in the English language for a reason," says the production's director, Stephen Strenio. "There's enough blood, guts, and witchcraft for a proper Halloween party, and a gripping exploration of the consequences of betrayal and murder to boot."

Artistic Director Christopher J Simpson returns to the stage as Macbeth himself. The tale follows the descent of the Macbeths as they follow their greed and ambition along a murderous trail laid by the famous witches.

"Briskly paced, this action-packed play leaps into the hell-on-earth opened by the Macbeths' struggle for immediate power, consequences, morality, and Scotland be damned," says Strenio.

In the Contemporary Theater Company's production, the Witches play several characters, creating the feeling that supernatural forces are pulling the strings throughout the play to lead the Macbeths to their downfall.

"The magical elements are particularly important in our production," says stage manager Maggie Cady. "The Witches are much more than oracles - they are controlling the course of the Macbeths lives."

This dark and fascinating play is the perfect Halloween treat this season. Tickets and more information about the company are available online at www.contemporarytheatercompany.com or by calling 401-218-0282.
