Epic Theatre Company is closing out its acclaimed fifth season with a true modern classic-Peter Shaffer'sEquus.

In this psychological study of obsession and religion, DR. Martin Dysart has been tasked with looking into the case of a troubled boy who blinds six horses despite his parents insisting that he has a mysterious affection for the animals. As Dysart delves into the boy's story, his own mind begins to unravel leading to one of the most dramatic moments in the history of theater.

"This fifth season has been a celebration of bold and edgy theater," says Epic Artistic Director Kevin Broccoli, "And there were two shows in particular I knew I wanted to tackle-Cat on a Hot Tin Roof and Equus. Our resident director Kira Hawkridge gave us a thrilling production of Cat and she's poised to do the same thing again with Peter Shaffer's brilliant play."

Hawkridge will be reunited with Eric Behr (Big Daddy in Epic's Cat on a Hot Tin Roof) and a cast that includes renowned local actors Rico Lanni, Paula Faber, Joanne Fayan, and Theodore Clement, Artistic Director of Counter-Productions Theatre Company.

"To have the Artistic Director of Out Loud Theatre at the helm of our season ender and another Artistic Director prominently featured in the cast shows the kind of commitment we have to collaboration and cross-promotion," says Broccoli, "It's something that all three of us are very proud of and something we plan to continue in the future."

They're joined by Erika Rethorn, Derek Smith, Samantha Gaus, Alijah Dickenson, Stephanie Barney, and Gabrielle McCauley.

Epic will also be re-teaming with Providence's Biz Nazo to bring their one-of-a-kind creations to the production.

"The folks at Big Nazo were so wonderful to us during last season's production of Animal Farm that it seemed like a no brainer to involve them in this season as well, and Equus presented the perfect opportunity for that," says Broccoli, "Bringing all these different talents together to work on this iconic piece of theater is exactly how we want to close out what's become a truly remarkable season of theater."

Equus runs June 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 9th, 10th, and 11th at 82 Rolfe Square in Cranston, Rhode Island-the home of Epic Theatre Company.
