Shawmut Design and Construction has made a $150,000 corporate contribution to the Pawtucket Armory Center for The Arts (Armory Arts) to support its initiative to advance the Performing Arts, the Fine Arts, and Historic Preservation in Pawtucket. The grant is a Challenge Grant to be matched one-to-one to spur philanthropic support of the Center.
"The Sandra Feinstein-Gamm Theater and the Pawtucket Armory Center for the Arts are a jewel in Pawtucket," said Mayor James E. Doyle. "This center and its productions and exhibits attract people, commerce, and residential development. Shawmut's significant grant will accelerate that process," he said.
"Where else can you find a magnificent facility like this in which to produce theater that would be considered excellent in New York City off-Broadway?" said Coline Covington, Chair of the Boards of the Gamm Theatre and the Pawtucket Armory Association. "We are grateful to Shawmut Design and Construction for their investment in our initiative," she said.
"We have been working long and hard to bring Armory Arts to where it is now," said Yvonne Seggerman, Executive Director of the Center. "We have increased our revenues seven-fold in the last six years," she said, "And that contributes to the economic development of Pawtucket as well as to the cultural quality of life in the city. Now, thanks to Shawmut, we are poised to cross a new threshold."
Bill Hughes, President of Shawmut Design and Construction, said, "Shawmut invests strategically in programs that we believe will contribute to the economic health of our communities. The Pawtucket Center for The Arts clearly passed our test, and we are proud to be a part of it."
Contributions to meet the challenge can be made to Pawtucket Armory Association, 172 Exchange Street, Pawtucket, RI 02860
