The Providence Performing Arts Center and Trusts and Estates Law Firm Correira & Iacono LLP are pleased to announce that Seekonk resident and Bishop Feehan High School senior William Clerx is the winner of the THE NEW Mel Brooks MUSICAL YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN-inspired $1,000 academic scholarship. The scholarship is inspired by the National Tour-opening of THE NEW Mel Brooks MUSICAL YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN, which occurs on Tuesday, September 29 at 7P at PPAC.
"I am thrilled to be the recipient of this year's Correira & Iacono LLP scholarship. I was elated when I received the call informing me of this honor, and I was even more excited when I discovered that I will be able to attend the media opening of THE NEW Mel Brooks MUSICAL YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN at PPAC. I wish to extend my sincere thanks and gratitude to Mr. Iacono, Mr. Correira, and PPAC for this wonderful opportunity," said William Clerx.
In order to be considered for the scholarship, students needed to submit an academic transcript, a list including all of their extracurricular activities, and an essay.
"We were looking for someone with 'the best brains' in our geographic area. We are really pleased by the number of excellent respondents to this year's scholarship. We took a lot of time looking at each applicant, but we were very impressed with William's extensive academic background, extracurricular commitments, and his essay," said David Correira, Esq.
Clerx certainly fits the bill of having the "best brains" around: he is a member of six different national honor societies and has received a wide range of top honors at Bishop Feehan. Clerx runs for Bishop Feehan's cross country and indoor and outdoor track teams, and is also active in music and drama. He plans on majoring in biology and attending medical school.
"It was very difficult selecting a recipient. However, we know that William will make fantastic use of this scholarship. It is clear that he is a motivated and focused student and we are so happy for him. We think that he is on his way to becoming a true renaissance man," said Mark Iacono, Esq.
