The Providence Speaking Society is proud to announce that TEDxProvidence 2017 will take place on September 30th at the VETS auditorium in downtown Providence. This year's themes are Past, Present, and Future and speaker nominations are now open. The public is invited to nominate speakers in these categories at tedxprovidence.com/nominate2017. Nominations will be open for at least 60 days, while the TEDx Team curates this year's lineup.
Who in Rhode Island inspires you creatively, politically, academically, athletically, spiritually, or entrepreneurially? Self-nominations and youth nominations are welcome.
Since 2011, TEDxProvidence has convened more than 60 speakers and over 2,800 audience members and attendees to celebrate Rhode Island's "Ideas Worth Spreading" through a daylong event featuring distinguished members of the community, live performances, and a gathering of community members from across the state.
"Community nominations are what make TEDxProvidence an outstanding event, and unique from other TEDx events in the region. No one knows Rhode Island better than the community itself and through the nomination process we learn about transformative ideas and incredible community members working everyday to enhance life in Rhode Island," said Caroline Mailloux of the TEDxProvidence Core Planning Committee.
Former speakers and hosts include everything from artist to activist, New Providence Leaders and long standing Providence trail blazers. Some examples include hip hop artist Sokeo Ros, choreographer Shura Baryshnikov, physician and activist Ehsun Mirza, former Poet Laureate Richard Benjamin, Providence Midnight Basketball League Organizer Kobi Dennis, along with AS220's Umberto Crenca and Big Nazo Creator Erminio Pinque.
