What Will the Neighbors Say? has announced the launch of its educational program What Will the Kids Say? The inaugural project is an original theatre for young audiences musical, Untitled Shape Show, with book by Co-Artistic Director Sam Hood Adrain and music and lyrics by Will Davis. The show will open Saturday June 24th at the Auditorium at the Providence Public Library, 150 Empire Street, Providence, RI with a cast of professional performers and local young actors.
Hood Adrain, a Rhode Island native who grew up in Providence, is proud to be initiating the WWTNS? education program in his hometown with the Untitled Shape Show. The show celebrates self-expression, presents the beauty of individuality and posits that it is our differences that make us beautiful. Inspired by the WWTNS? commitment to diversity and inclusion, the show uses the metaphor of shapes to create a positive, affirmative theatrical experience for young people to both perform in and watch as audience members. Hood Adrain began writing the book in 2016, and WWTNS? is thrilled to be mounting the regional premiere this summer. The Untitled Shape Show is generously supported by the Gracie Annabelle Foundation for the Arts and the Rhode Island Foundation.
Composer and lyricist Will Davis is a Brooklyn-based musician and actor whose previous musical, And Then: A Science Fiction Folk Event, premiered at the New York Fringe in 2016. Company members James Clements, Jorge Morales-Pico and Ana Cristina Schuler will be performing alongside Rhode Island native Chandler Cross, an actor and musician, and nine young people aged 8-16. The direction will be shared collaboratively by Hood Adrian, Clements, Morales-Pico and Schuler, reflecting the WWTNS? commitment to artistic experimentation. The WWTNS? team have extensive experience in youth theatre at companies including Missoula Children's Theatre, Jovenes del 98 Theatre, and Kaleidoscope Children's Theatre, and are excited to be working with young people again for the Untitled Shape Show.
What Will the Neighbors Say? is a New Theatre Company based in New York City with a global perspective. WWTNS? creates theatre that examines historical, social, political and economic narratives that have been disregarded, misrepresented, or otherwise untold in order to provoke discourse in our audience and community. WWTNS? maintains a consistent commitment to diversity, arts education, community outreach, and artistic experimentation. Provoking questions through untold stories.
