Trinity Rep announces its annual presentation of Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol, directed by James Dean Palmer, and featuring resident Acting Company member Brian McEleney as Scrooge. A timeless tale of forgiveness and hope enjoyed by generations of New Englanders, this holiday favorite earns rave reviews from audiences and critics year after year. Director James Dean Palmer (Brown/Trinity Rep MFA '16) is excited to bring the beloved show to life. "I look around the world and see troubled times, and I spend my days wondering how I can help. A Christmas Carol at Trinity Rep is a tremendous tradition, as the statewide community comes together in celebration of love, charity, and redemption," he says. "During my three years of training in the Brown/Trinity Rep directing program, I have taken great pleasure in joining in this celebration and am excited to share this year's joyous production with Rhode Island."
For the fourth year, Trinity Rep offers a sensory-friendly performance of A Christmas Carol, Saturday, November 12 at 12:00 PM. Designed to meet the needs of children and adults on the autism spectrum, and/or individuals with sensory processing disorders or other cognitive disabilities, this performance features modified sound, lighting and other adjustments. Patrons are invited to make sounds, enter and exit as needed during the performance and enjoy this holiday tradition with their family and community.
This year's production features Trinity Rep resident Acting Company members Rebecca Gibel, Brian McEleney, Anne Scurria, Stephen Thorne and Rachael Warren with Kamili Feelings and Brown/Trinity Rep MFA actors Matt Ketai, Jake Loewenthal, Maggie Mason, Chris Stahl and Lucy Van Atta.
Trinity Rep also welcomes six local children, ages 8-12, to the stage. One hundred fifteen child actors auditioned and the rotating cast includes: Ava Cambra of Wesport, MA, Lillian Johnson of Providence, Lana Lacombe of Cranston, Gustavo Londono of Cranston, Elijah Nyahkoon of Cranston, and Gabriella Wolf-Olayanju of North Providence.
The design team includes Michael Krass (costume design), Michael McGarty (set design), Miles Polaski (sound design)Seth Reiser(lighting design), Michael Rice (music direction), and Myah Shein (choreography) and with stage manager Lori Lundquist.
James Dean Palmer is a New York based director and educator. In 2010 he was awarded a Joseph Jefferson award for Best Direction ofThe Love of the Nightingale. His work has been presented at The Goodman Theatre, Victory Gardens, American Theater Company, Chautauqua Theatre, and Chicago Dramatists, among others. For nine seasons he served as the Artistic Director of Chicago's Red Tape Theatre. He was the assistant to the Artistic Director at Steppenwolf Theatre and served on the Board of Directors at the League of Chicago Theaters. James is a Drama League Fellow and has received fellowships from both Stage Directors and Choreographers Foundation and Chautauqua Theatre Company. He holds an MFA in Directing from Brown University.
