Mystery Science Theatre 3K Hits RI with Star Joel Hodgson

Joel Hodgson, acclaimed creator of the Peabody Award-winning cult classic Mystery Science Theater 3000 (MST3K), brings his uniquely quirky brand of humor to the Greenwich Odeum, 59 Main St, East Greenwich, RI for one weekend only. With this MYSTERY SCIENCE THEATER 3000 (MST3K) WEEKEND, the Odeum is presenting fans with a rare opportunity to celebrate the show for two full nights. Highlights of the weekend include screenings of Hodgson's favorite MST3K episodes and shorts, Q&A sessions and a chance to catch his new one-man show, Riffing Myself on Saturday evening. Featuring Joel's uniquely charming humor, Riffing Myself is a hilarious evening packed with rich stories and oddball surprises about his forays into the depths of B-movie madness, the legendary origin story of MST3K and it's journey to Comedy Central and beyond! Friday September 18th at 8PM brings Mystery Science Theater 3000 (MST3K) creator & star Joel Hodgson to Rhode Island with his much anticipated MST3K Weekend at The Greenwich Odeum, Main Street, East Greenwich. Hodgson will kick off his live MST3K Weekend with a "Mini-Marathon Double Feature" where he will host two of his favorite MST3K episodes, followed by what promises to be a lively Q & A session with Joel Hodgson & members of the audience. The episodes to be screened on Friday were selected by Joel and represent the best of the long running Comedy Central & Sci-Fi Channel TV series. Saturday, September 19th at 8PM "Riffing Myself" and "Joel's Favorite Shorts" plus VIP Meet & Greet Reception at 6:30PM with Joel Hodgson
On Saturday, September 19th at 8PM, Joel Hodgson presents his one-man show Riffing Myself with the added bonus of Joel's Favorite Shorts, a handpicked sampling of the host's favorite MST3K short clips. With Riffing Myself, Joel will dive deep into the history of B-movies, tell the legendary origin story behind MST3K and a sneak peek at what the future holds for Joel and the bots. An intimate look at the man who provided television audiences with countless laughs on MST3K within the "Satellite of Love" alongside Tom Servo and Crow T. Robot. Joel Hodgson began his career as a stand-up comic, magician, and gizmo inventor before retiring at the age of 24. Returning from exile in the late '80s, Hodgson cemented his place in pop-culture history by creating Mystery Science Theater 3000 (MST3K), the cult TV show in which he and a group of robots watched and brilliantly skewered B-movies. Beginning at a local Minneapolis station, the program found its niche among 90s viewers of the then-fledgling Comedy Central where it ran through 1999. Hodgson left the show at the height of its popularity in 1995. Much of his one-man show Riffing Myself is the retelling of the near-legendary origin story of MST3K and the high art of riffing.
