Starting to feel that holiday stress? You're not alone. Even Mr. and Mrs. Bob Cratchit are feeling it in Mrs. Bob Cratchit's Wild Christmas Binge! The Contemporary Theater Company in Wakefield is bringing back this audience favorite by Christopher Durang, running December 1 - 23.
"Mrs. Bob Cratchit is one of our favorite shows because it mixes a genuine love of the holidays with a ruthless exploration of the things that are most frustrating about the season," says Artistic Director Christopher Simpson. "The show gives us permission to be imperfect and to be happy at the same time. And it's really, really funny."
Mrs. Bob Cratchit's Wild Christmas Binge by Christopher Durang takes everything you know and love about Christmas, A Christmas Carol, and the pressure of the holidays and turns it on its head. All your favorite characters are still around - Scrooge, the Ghost of Christmas Past, the Cratchit family - but with cheeky twists. The Ghost can't get her magic to work, Mrs. Bob Cratchit is a bitter, over-worked mother, and Scrooge - well she's as grumpy as ever.
"The holidays can be a hectic time of year, and Mrs. Bob Cratchit's Wild Christmas Binge is a great chance to relax and laugh at it all," says Communications Director Maggie Cady.
The Contemporary Theater Company performed Mrs. Bob Cratchit's Wild Christmas Binge in 2011 and 2014 to sold-out crowds.
Tickets are expected to sell quickly, so it is suggested that patrons get them ahead of time. The Downtown Wakefield area has seen a revitalization in recent years with great restaurants and shops to complete the night out.
The cast features Christine Cauchon, Tiffany Fenton, Laura Kennedy, Sami Avigdor, Terry Simpson, Devon Andrews, Carolyn Coughlin, Nick Fazio, Christine Magnotta, Sean Marran, Neal Motta, Sabrina Blaney, Katie Bootle, Josie Geremia, Gwen Lucia, Lily Weisz-Nesshoever, and Ju'elle West.
"Mrs. Bob Cratchit is a Christmas show unlike any other," says the show's director, Rebecca Magnotta. "The rehearsals for this show have been some of the most fun I have ever seen, and we all can't wait to show the world what we have been up to. So get ready."
