The Sandra Feinstein-Gamm Theatre (The Gamm) stages The Nether, American playwright Jennifer Haley's daring sci-fi drama set in the dark recesses of the Web. Director Judith Swift (Grounded, The Beauty Queen of Leenane) mounts a limited 4-week run of this twisting, turning, two-tiered investigation into the moral consequences of making even the most depraved dreams a reality in the virtual world.

"The Nether is a theatrical equivalent of Netflix' 'Black Mirror' or HBO's 'Westworld,' only the virtual world isn't on a screen. It's live in front of you," explains Gamm Artistic Director Tony Estrella. "It's a thrilling detective story and an up-to-the-second examination of the potential moral dangers of digital and virtual technologies, a thrilling sci-fi whodunit for a future that's already here." The Nether runs from March 2-26 at The Gamm Theatre, 172 Exchange St., Pawtucket, RI. Tickets are $44 and $52; preview performances (March 2-5) are $33. Call 401-723-4266 or order online at gammtheatre.org. The Nether contains sexual subject matter and is appropriate for mature audiences.

ABOUT THE NETHER

Log in. Choose an identity. Live out your private dreams. This is life in the Nether--- a lush, virtual wonderland offering total sensory immersion, free of judgement and, seemingly, consequence. But when a real-world cop discovers a disturbing form of entertainment in "The Hideaway" realm, she triggers a virtual investigation with gasp-worthy revelations and an unimagined result. Part fairy tale, part sci-fi thriller, The Nether is a taut, haunting and highly original play for our times.
