"On Golden Pond" by Ernest Thompson is opening August 2, 2019 at the Granite Theatre. Often perceived as a serious drama, Artistic Director David Jepson says it is "both comedy and drama that often matches the funniest one liners of any Neil Simon. "On Golden Pond" will be the last opportunity for the audience to see the long time producing and acting team of David and Beth Jepson on stage together before their retirement at the end of this season. The show runs August 2 - 25, 2019
The show starts Artistic Directors David and Beth Jepson. This is the love story of Ethel and Norman Thayer, who are returning to their summer home on Golden Pond for the forty-eighth year. He is a retired professor with a failing memory-but still as tart-tongued, as ever. Ethel, ten years younger, delights in all the small things that have enriched their life together. They are visited by their daughter and her fiancé, who then go off to Europe, leaving his teenage son behind for the summer. The boy quickly becomes the "grandchild" the elderly couple have longed for, even as he proves to be a handful. In the end Norman, Ethel and the audience will hope that perhaps another summer on Golden Pond still awaits. ".... a rare and memorable theatrical experience..." -Variety. 2005 Tony Award for Best Revival of a Play.
David Jepson (Westerly, RI) directs the show. The show features David and Beth Jepson (Westerly, RI), Michelle Mania (Westerly, RI), Patrick Conaway (East Lyme, CT), Michael Chiaradio (Westerly, RI) and Jude Pescatello (Groton, CT).
