Festival Ballet Providence¹s (FBP) vibrant 2017 adaptation of one of the world's most beloved children¹s stories, The Little Prince, returns to the chatterBOXtheatre due to popular demand. Based on the famous story by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, FBP's The Little Prince premiered to critical acclaim last season, combining imaginative choreography by Boyko Dossev and energetic music by Maxime Goulet. The multimedia production includes spirited narration by local storyteller Valerie Tutson, original animation elements by Ty Parmenter, stunning artwork by Michele Gutlove, and glowing scenery courtesy of WaterFire Providence. The series runs for two weekends, March 3-11, 2018, at the FBP Black Box Theatre (825 Hope St., Providence RI 02906).
³When we premiered this ballet last year, it was fascinating to see the creative team bring their talents together,² said artistic director Mihailo Djuric. ³The result is a truly sensational experience that tells this beloved story effectively for audiences of any age,² Djuric said.
Saint-Exupéry¹s 1943 novella is one of the best-selling books ever published, bringing its readers along on a young prince¹s interplanetary journey and eventual arrival on Earth. The prince befriends an aviator and learns about this strange new-to-him planet and the perplexing characters who inhabit it. ³This story is a timeless one, as relevant today as it was in its own time,² said Djuric, adding, ³it¹s both a challenge and a unique opportunity to tell such a vibrant and expansive story.²
The Little Prince is the latest installment in FBP¹s popular chatterBOXtheatre series, a fun and expressive curation of dance designed to cater to our youngest audience, established in 2009 with the support of Seven Stars Bakery.
