Epic Theatre Company is sweetening up the month of February with the Rhode Island Premiere of Kirsten Greenidge's lyrical drama Milk Like Sugar.
When Annie turns sixteen, her friends go with her to get a tattoo. By the end of the evening, they'll have entered into a pregnancy pact. Annie finds it's harder than she expected to live up to her end of the bargain when she meets Malik, an aspiring astronomer, and Keera, a young woman of faith. Coupled with her home life, including a tough-talking mother, Annie has to face her future before she makes a choice that will set it stone-not sugar.
"Kirsten Greenidge's script is one of those once-in-a-lifetime finds," said Artistic Director Kevin Broccoli, "She's created a beautiful new language and a riveting drama to go with it. There are so many young adults out there like Annie and her friends, and I love that we're being given the opportunity to share their stories with our audience."
Epic Director Tammy Brown directs a cast that includes Angelique Dina (House Arrest, Barbecue), Alijah Ileana Dickenson (House Arrest, James Franco and Me), Jackie Aguirre, Sonya Joyner, David Monteiro, Ibrahima Tylar Jahumpa, and Valearie Kane as Annie.
"Milk Like Sugar" by Kirsten Greenidge runs February 9th - 24th at Epic Theatre Company in Cranston, Rhode Island. For tickets, go to http://www.artists-exchange.org/epictheatrecompany.html.
