Epic Theatre Company is excited to announce its upcoming summer season featuring the Rhode Island Premiere of "Constellations" by Nick Payne and "Homos, or Everyone in America" by Jordan Seavey. The plays will make up Epic's "Summer of Serendipity," which will explore the ways love and connection are imperiled or encouraged by the unseen forces all around us.
"This summer came together as we were planning our next full season," says Kevin Broccoli, Epic Artistic Director, "We-unexpectedly-got the rights to both of these gorgeous shows, and couldn't figure out where we could put them in next year's season. Someone suggested we pair them up, and that's when this idea of devoting an entire summer to love was invented. This season and next season are both looking at some really serious issues, so I love being able to spend the summer leading in between examining the strength of human bonds and affection even against insurmountable odds."
Nick Payne's "Constellations" was a smash on Broadway when it premiered in 2015 with Jake Gyllenhaal in the lead role. It's a two-person play that looks at a relationship as it moves forward through time, including all the possibilities for how the lovers stay together or break apart.
Time also plays a part in Jordan Seavey's "Homos, or Everyone in America" as the love between two men is looked at over the course of a number of years. In Seavey's plays, we see bits and pieces of their tumultuous and touching love story out-of-time, turning a contemporary look at modern relationships into a fascinating mystery as well.
"Both of these plays are perfect for Epic," says Broccoli, "They're meant to be performed with a minimal aesthetic-focusing on the characters and their journeys. We'll be producing both in our brand new space at 50 Rolfe Square, where the audience will be front and center for what's sure to be a profound theatrical experience."
"Constellations" by Nick Payne will premiere in July 2018, followed by "Homos, or Everyone in America" in August 2018.
