Epic Theatre is celebrating the summer with a sequel to one of its most successful shows. After last August's "The Boys of St. Matthew's Present Tartuffe," the cast and crew are back, and this time they're taking on one of the most infamous stories of all time-Les Liaisones Dangereuses.
In a new adaptation by Artistic Director Kevin Broccoli, eight of St. Matthew's finest students have been sent to an International Drama Festival in Europe to present a tasteful new musical written by the school's principal, Father Frank. When their chaperone gets sidelined, the boys take things into their own hands, and the new class takes up some old habits by putting on the scandalous story of sexual manipulation and corruption. Can the boys fly through all that sordidness before the festival shuts them down? Leave it to the St. Matthew's students to create an international incident.
"Last year's all-schoolboy production of Tartuffe was one of the most talked about shows we've ever done," says Artistic Director Kevin Broccoli, "As soon as we concluded our run, people were asking me if we would bring it back or tackle another show with the same cast. When I decided on doing a Summer of Sex, it seemed like a no-brainer to bring back the boys."
This is the second show being presented at Mixed Magic Theater where Epic is in residency. "We have a great relationship with our RITA colleagues at Mixed Magic," says Broccoli, "And I love personally love getting to travel to different spaces around the state. It keeps our work fresh and helps build relationships and audiences in other communities."
Broccoli is joined by co-director Jennifer White, and a cast that includes Matthew Gorgone, Justin Fortin, Michael Shallcross, Austin Mazza, Derek Smith, Ian Hudgins, Aaron Blanck, and Cardryell Truss.
The Boys of St. Matthew's Presents Les Liaisones Dangereuses runs Friday and Saturday nights from August 5th - 20th. Tickets will be available on Mixed Magic's website at https://mmtri.com/
