Counter-Productions Theatre Company will present the world premiere of Kill The Virgin by Rhode Island playwright, Kevin Broccoli. This absurdist play explores the role of women as featured in one of the most popular modern film genres. Set in "Anytown, America," the play tells the story of Ali, a misfit teenager who suddenly becomes aware that she is actually a doomed character in a horror movie. "I wanted to write a play about a girl who refuses to be a victim," says Broccoli, "even when the world around her has other plans."
"I'm so excited to have the world premiere of this play happen at Counter-Productions," says Broccoli, who believes that Artistic Director Ted Clement "has assembled the perfect cast." The play features Victoria Ezikovich as Ali, Eden Casteel as Lilly, John Joseph Gomes as Steve, Marina Tejada as Diaz, Adam Florio as Marconi, Jerry Middlemiss as Leonard, Chelsea Titchenell as Tracy, Lexie Lankiewicz as Sara, Derek Smith as Evan, David Monteiro as Darius, and Jennifer Pierel as Jo. In true horror fashion, the production will include nudity, sexual situations, violence, and general gore, making it unsuitable material for children. To quote the playwright, "This play is one of the most twisted things I've ever written."
Kill The Virgin will conclude Counter-Productions Theatre Company's 2015-2016 season in residence at AS220's Blackbox Theatre, located at 95 Empire Street, Providence, RI. It opens in May, on Friday the 13th, and runs for two weekends. Show dates and times are May 13th, 14th, 20th & 21st at 7:00pm and May 15th & 22nd at 2:00pm. Admission is $20.
