Award-winning Artemisia's Intent will bring the life and work of Italian painter Artemisia Gentileschi to the 5th Annual Providence Fringe Festival, FRINGEPVD. Before making its Rhode Island debut, Artemisia's Intent will receive a send-off performance in NYC on Thursday, July 26, 2018 at 7:30PM at The Kraine (85 East 4th Street, NY, NY 10009). Tickets are $25 and can be purchased online at www.horsetrade.info or at the box office.

Declared "a powerful parallel to our current cultural moment" (Culture Catch), Artemisia's Intent won Best Solo Drama at the 2018 Frigid Festival. Created with source material ranging from the 1612 rape trial of 17th century Baroque painter Artemisia Gentileschi to Taylor Swift's 2017 assault trial, this solo show stars Mariah Freda in a performance that is "fiery, smart and appealing" (Hi! Drama). Inspired by every proclamation of, 'me too,' Artemisia's Intent unmasks power structures one gripping masterpiece at a time.

>From Artistic Director Melissa Moschitto: "Though Artemisia's story is 400 years old, it is very much in dialogue with today's women, fighting for fair representation and autonomy - as people and as artists. I'm especially thrilled to introduce The Anthropologists to the city of Providence, where I cut my teeth at Trinity Repertory Company as a college intern."

Artemisia's Intent makes its Rhode Island premiere at FRINGEPVD on July 31 (8:30PM) and August 1 (7PM) at the Wilbury Theatre Group (40 Sonoma Ct, Providence, RI). Modeled after the world-famous Edinburgh Fringe Festival, and in the great tradition of Fringe Festivals around the world, FRINGEPVD brings independent performers from around the world to Providence to share original work from artists on the "fringe." The running time is 60 min.

Devised by a team of five female artists, the creative and production team includes Melissa Moschitto (Director/Playwright), Mariah Freda (Performer), Lynde Rosario (Dramaturg), Brianna Kalisch (Co-Conceiver), Irina Kuraeva (Visual Design), Lauren Mitchell (Lighting Design), Adrian Bridges (Sound Design) and Katie Gilmartin (Stage Manager).

THE ANTHROPOLOGISTS is dedicated to the collaborative creation of investigative theatre that inspires action. Celebrating their 10th year, their work has been described as "eerie and weird in the best way" (Culturebot) and "incisive, even necessary work for the present moment." (Culture Catch).
