Based on popular demand, an additional presentation of "Acting for the Camera" will be presented by Las Cruces filmmaker Johnny Tabor and Deming actor Algernon D'Ammassa. On Saturday, April 14, Tabor and D'Ammassa will once again team up and teach a one-day intensive acting class for film and television. The workshop will run from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM and will be conducted at the Black Box Theatre's annex located at 717A N. Mesquite Street.
The class will begin with techniques for preparation and performance specifically for acting on camera, and the differences between camera technique and stage performance. Participants will receive sides as at an actual audition, and act on camera for practice and feedback. The teachers combine the perspectives of a filmmaker and an actor, for valuable insight on what the industry looks for and how actors can implement it.
Participants are welcome to bring headshot/resumes for the instructors' feedback.
An actor since early childhood, instructor Algernon D'Ammassa is an alumnus of the Trinity Repertory Company in Rhode Island, and has taught theatre for children and adults for twenty years. He founded the Theatre Dojo in Los Angeles, California, which trained theatre companies and individual actors in voice, movement, acting, and martial arts.
Johnny Tabor is a Las Cruces-based filmmaker whose independent movie FOLKLORE has generated much advance publicity, and will be released this spring. His next project is set to film in southern New Mexico this summer.
The price for the workshop is $75.00 and advance registration is strongly recommended, as space is limited. For more information or to register, call (575) 545-4665 or email nogate@gmail.com.
