Ocean State Theatre Company (OSTC), which recently completed its first full season in its new state-of-the-art theatre in Warwick is proud to open their summer season on June 4 with the song-filled hit, Always...Patsy Cline, sponsored by Residence Inn by Marriott.
This tribute to the music of the woman who epitomized country music in the late '50s and '60s is wrapped around the true story of her friendship with one of her greatest fans, Louise Seger. Seger, who fell in love with Patsy's voice after seeing her perform "Walkin' After Midnight" on Arthur Godfrey's Talent Scouts in 1957, followed Cline's career via radio and television and finally met the singer at a Houston concert in 1961. The two became pen pals up until the 1963 plane crash that claimed Cline's life. The musical play, complete with down home country humor and honest emotion, includes many of Patsy Cline's most unforgettable hits - 27 in all - such as "Seven Lonely Days," "You're Cheatin' Heart," "I Fall to Pieces," "Sweet Dreams," "Walkin' After Midnight" and of course "Crazy." Always . . . Patsy Cline is an intimate look at the woman behind the legend - an insider's story as only a true friend could tell it.
Directed and staged by Producing Artistic Director Amiee Turner, with musical direction by John C. Brown, who music directed OSTC's critically acclaimed production of Forever Plaid (2012), the cast includes two OSTC audience favorites - Erin McCracken and Lulu Lloyd. Ms. McCracken who won rave reviews for her portrayals of Tracy Turnblad in Hairspray (2011) and Cindy Lou in The Winter Wonderettes (2012), will be portraying the legendary Patsy Cline. Ms. Lloyd, who will be portraying the role of Louise Seger, was praised by the critics for her portrayal of Judy in 9 to 5: The Musical (2013) and Missy in The Winter Wonderettes (2012).
