Review: HUGH PANARO: THE MAN WITHOUT THE MASK, Crazy Coqs
UK / West End: Mica Blackwell on September 09, 2024

Possessing a booming yet silky tenor voice and a natural charm, it’s clear why Panaro’s career has been so successful. Even when accustomed to performing in thousand-seater theatres and working with heavyweights like Barbra Streisand and Elton John, his humbleness shines in this concert as he regales personal stories, some with tears in his eyes.

Review: BLUES IN THE NIGHT at The Black Rep
St. Louis: Steve Callahan on September 09, 2024

Ron Himes’ amazing Black Rep company is opening its 48th season with a piece of pure delight.  It’s called Blues in the Night, and it’s a glorious musical revue of the history of that genre.  And such a vastly diverse history that is, with vaudeville songs, deeply moving songs of love and loss, lush and lonely excursions into real jazz, and comic novelty songs that get seriously, hilariously bawdy.

Review: PASCAL & JULIEN at 24th Street Theatre
Los Angeles: Amanda Callas on September 09, 2024

Pascal & Julien is the US premiere of a magical play about childhood and friendship at the award-winning 24th Street Theatre in West Adams running through October 27th.  Written by Australian playwright Daniel Keene, Pascal & Julien is the tale of two quirky, annoying loners who discover the tender beauty of friendship.

Review: THE PROM at Berkeley Playhouse
San Francisco / Bay Area: Kelly Rogers Flynt on September 09, 2024

THE PROM at Berkeley Playhouse sparkles with energy, sequins, and high-octane choreography. With its message of inclusivity and tolerance, the show highlights the continued struggles of LBGTQ+ youth. Come for the dancing, and stay for the story. And just like in high school, THE PROM is a night you won’t forget.hat did our critic think of THE PROM at Berkeley Playhouse?

Review: OLIVER LEITH: WRITTEN IN SWAMP AND GOLD, Bold Tendencies
UK / West End: Matthew Paluch on September 09, 2024

“Visionary British composer Oliver Leith makes music that brings people together” seems like a very good place to start. Judging by the massive crowd at Bold Tendencies on September 7 he does just that.

Review: BBC PROMS: PROM 65: HANDEL'S MESSIAH, Royal Albert Hall
UK / West End: Aliya Al-Hassan on September 09, 2024

The climax to the Proms' Choral Day could only be George Frideric Handel's majestic Messiah. This 1789 arrangement by Mozart was performed by The Academy of St Martin in the Fields, joined by an incredible six (yes six) choirs, conducted by an ebullient John Butt.

REVIEW: With Plenty To Consider, PROBE Is Packed With Thought Provoking Ideas
Australia - Sydney: Jade Kops on September 09, 2024

Becca Hurd’s (playwright) PROBE makes its World Premiere at Old Fitz Theatre.

Film Review: THE CRITIC
UK / West End: Cindy Marcolina on September 09, 2024

The Irish writer Brendan Behan described critics as “eunuchs in a harem; they know how it’s done, they’ve seen it done every day, but they’re unable to do it themselves”. Quite a damning characterisation. Anand Tucker introduces an ageing critic, Jimmy Erskine, whose name and ruthlessness are the stuff of legends. When a struggling actress becomes entangled in his web, Erskine drags both of them down a dangerous path. Loosely based on Anthony Quinn’s novel Curtain Call but featuring a different premise, The Critic is a solid, witty black comedy before seamlessly shifting into a chic crime drama.

Review: ZOONATION: THE MAD HATTER'S TEA PARTY, Royal Ballet And Opera
UK / West End: Matthew Paluch on September 09, 2024

It's not often one comes across theatre that's transformative; but when you do, you know. Case in point: ZooNation’s The Mad Hatter's Tea Party.

Review: LA TRAVIATA, Royal Ballet And Opera
UK / West End: Alexander Cohen on September 09, 2024

Heavily reliant on strong vocals

Review: CYRANO DE BERGERAC at Cold Frame Collective
Austin: Sabrina Wallace on September 09, 2024

Cyrano de Bergerac is a monumental play, often challenging for theatrical companies to execute effectively. Cold Frame Collective honors the work of Edmund Rostand with Kathleen Fletcher's riveting performance and a production approach focused on the rich text of the play! A captivating classic worth every minute! #austintheatre #Cyrano #ColdFrameCollective

Review: CABARET at Theatre Harrisburg
Central Pennsylvania: Andrea Stephenson on September 08, 2024

This production of Cabaret combines creative and thoughtful direction and design with incredible talent on stage and off. It is a difficult show that hits hard in many ways, and the team at Theatre Harrisburg meets the challenge of Cabaret head on.

Review: 3 FACES OF STEVE: SONDHEIM IN CONCERT at Odyssey Theatre
Los Angeles: Amanda Callas on September 08, 2024

Memorable, entertaining and show-stopping, 3 Faces of Steve is a special treat to be savored.  The lavish, luxurious operatic voices and powerhouse emotive performances of Angelina Réaux, Michael Sokol and Bernardo Bermudez shine in the intimate, warm space of the Odyssey.

Review: MILLION DOLLAR QUARTET at Titusville Playhouse
Orlando: Joseph Harrison on September 08, 2024

On Tuesday evening, December 4, 1956, in Memphis, Tennessee, while a winter chill bit into passersby at the corner of Union Avenue and Marshall Avenue something big was heating up the studio of Sun Records on that very same corner. Sun Records founder and producer, Sam Phillips had brought together a group of young musicians who were just starting out on their long and storied careers, for that one night only, to jam together. At the time, that gathering may have been unremarkable, but looking back years later, Mr. Phillips called the group the “Million Dollar Quartet” – since it was made up of what would become some of the biggest names in Rock and Roll – Carl Perkins, Jerry Lee Lewis, Johnny Cash, and Elvis Presley. And while the recordings of that night took many years to be released, audiences have the chance to witness the gathering for themselves on stage in MILLION DOLLAR QUARTET – the latest musical offering at the Titusville Playhouse. And believe me - this gathering is electric, exciting and thrilling to witness.

Review: BBC PROMS: PROM 62: RATTLE CONDUCTS MAHLER'S 6TH, Royal Albert Hall
UK / West End: Louise Penn on September 08, 2024

There were no phone screens, no sotto voce conversations, no fidgeting, as a packed Hall watched the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra in rapt appreciation. Each instrument had its moment. The dual harps added a cool clarity, the double basses a morose touch, the trombones a sweet elegance. This was a vibrant reading of a modern classic in expert hands.

Review: TRIAL AND ERROR at Baxter Theatre Centre Explores Law as Theatre
South Africa: Jaime Uranovsky on September 08, 2024

Phoenix: Zach Wetzel on September 08, 2024

This play is a lot of fun and audiences will leave with a smile on their face!
