Based on the beloved animated film and the historical legend, 'Anastasia' follows the journey of a young woman, Anya, who sets out to uncover the secrets of her past. With the help of a charismatic conman and an ex-aristocrat, she travels from the streets of post-revolutionary Russia to the dazzling lights of 1920s Paris, seeking answers about her mysterious heritage. Featuring a breathtaking score and an epic tale of love, courage, and self-discovery, this production is not to be missed!

This production is directed by the renowned team behind last season’s breathtaking 'Tuck Everlasting':

  • Keri Burman Castro – Director & Costume Designer

  • Daniel Evan Castro – Music Director & Choreographer

  • Professor Andrew Gutshall – Set & Lighting Designer

Director Keri Burman Castro shares her excitement for this monumental production:

“I’m most excited about this production because we are working with one of the largest casts in recent VU theatre history. This means we are engaging more students in the arts across campus, particularly in theatre, since it is no longer a major. Theatre thrives on collaboration, and I love that students from all disciplines are involved in making this production a success, both onstage and behind the scenes.”

However, she acknowledges the challenges of such an ambitious production:

“The biggest challenge has been managing the sheer scale of the production with a limited amount of rehearsal time. This musical is an epic, featuring a large set, intricate costumes, dynamic music, and complex staging. At the same time, our cast members are full-time students balancing multiple commitments. We’ve worked hard to accommodate their schedules, ensuring they can explore their interests while also participating in theatre. College is about exploration, and we’re grateful they want to include theatre in that journey.”

At its heart, 'Anastasia' is a powerful story of survival, resilience, and love against all odds. Castro encourages audiences to attend, not only for the captivating story and spectacle but also to support the arts at Valparaiso University:

“The public should come see it not only because it’s a compelling production, but also because supporting the arts—especially theatre at Valpo—is crucial. Opportunities are limited, and fostering a strong arts culture is vital for students as they shape their futures. Beyond that, the production itself is visually stunning and will be a true treat for anyone who attends.”

This stunning production is open to the public. Don’t miss the chance to witness the magic of 'Anastasia' live on stage at Valparaiso University!
