About the Album: DISENCHANTED! has been on a magical 10-year journey that reads much like a fairy tale. It all began as a self-produced 2009 workshop in a small rehearsal room in midtown Manhattan. Snow White, Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, and a whole host of pissed-off princesses were met with packed houses and standing ovations as they belted out the truth about happily ever after. DISENCHANTED! had struck a chord (pun intended) and was on its way.
"DIS!," as the show is affectionately now known, went on to win the 2010 New Jersey Playwrights Contest as well as the 2011 Orlando International Fringe Theatre Festival's Producers Award for Best of Fest. With the help of a number of "fairy godmothers" (producers, investors, family, and friends), the show enjoyed successful developmental productions including Los Angeles, San Francisco, and an 11-week, sold-out run in Tampa, Florida as part of the David A. Straz Center's Broadway Series.
DISENCHANTED!, the show that had first performed in a tiny corner of the 12th floor at Pearl Studios in NYC, opened Off-Broadway in November, 2014 at The Theatre at St. Clement's. Due to popular demand, DIS! soon transferred to Off-Broadway's historic Westside Theatre in March, 2015. The show garnered critical acclaim and award nominations from the Outer Critics Circle (Outstanding New Off-Broadway Musical), the Off Broadway Alliance (Best New Musical), and the Lucille Lortel Awards (Best Actress and Best Featured Actress in a Musical).
In July 2019, princesses from around the USA gathered in New York City to celebrate the show by recording this special 10th Anniversary Studio Recording. Today, DISENCHANTED! is performed by theatre companies around the globe ... and happily ever after has never sounded so good!
We dedicate this 10th Anniversary Studio Recording to all the 'fairy godmothers' around the globe who continue to love and support the show. We're forever grateful for the ever-growing worldwide sorority of DISENCHANTED! princesses and their fans (better known as 'The Princess Posse') - we couldn't have done "DIS!" without you!
