About the Album: After he became the second man to walk on the moon, reporters asked Buzz Aldrin if he wished he had been the first.
“I really didn’t want that,” Buzz claimed, “because of the added heartache.”
Why is it so hard to believe him? A folk-rock fable for the runner-up in all of us, 1969: The Second Man explores competition and collective achievement through the story of one small man who became one giant myth.
DEVELOPMENT HISTORY In 2014, a workshop of 1969: The Second Man was presented at Ars Nova’s ANT Fest. The workshop was produced by David Manella, with a book by Simon De Carvalho and direction by Lilleth Glimcher.
In 2016, a concert of 1969: The Second Man was presented at Chinatown Soup, with generous support from Serena Berman and Jake Beckhard.
In winter 2018, a concert workshop of 1969: The Second Man was presented at The Tank. The workshop was produced by Madeleine Foster Bersin, with a book by Dan Giles.
In summer 2018, 1969: The Second Man will have its world premiere at Next Door @ New York Theatre Workshop. It is produced by by Madeleine Foster Bersin, with a book by Dan Giles and direction by Jaki Bradley.
Throughout its development, 1969: The Second Man has featured performers Mateus Falci, Ezra Lowrey, Seth Eliser, Lauren Wainwright, Paris Ellsworth, Andrew Chow, Ben Lorenz, Paul Castrigano, Caitlin Quinlan, Kyra Atekwana, Eli Kozminsky, and Jacob Brandt and the work of designers Daniel Prosky and Tarpley Hitt.

The Cape Cod Theatre Project (CCTP) announces its 2023 Season of New Plays, running Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights at 7:30 PM ET from June 29th-July 22nd at Falmouth Academy's Simon Center for the Arts. For the second consecutive year, CCTP will highlight female voices, with workshops of staged readings by Steph Del Rosso (June 29-July 1), May Treuhaft-Ali (July 6-July 8), Fernanda Coppel (July 13-15) and Mary Elizabeth Hamilton (July 20-22).

Producer Madeleine Foster Bersin has announced the cast and creative team for House Plant, by Sarah Einspanier (Lunch Bunch), and directed by Jaki Bradley (1969: The Second Man), as part of Next Door at NYTW. Previews begin at the Fourth Street Theatre (83 E 4th St) on Wednesday February 5, 2020, with opening night set for Friday February 7, for a limited run through Saturday February 22, 2020. Pipeline Theatre Company has announced full casting for the world premiere of jazz concert-party-play hybrid Playing Hot, created by Kevin Armento (Balls) and Jaki Bradley (1969: The Second Man). Playing Hot is written by Armento and C.A. Johnson (Thirst), will be directed by Bradley, and will feature musical supervision by Marcus Miller. Playing Hot will begin previews at Theater 511 (511 West 54th Street) on April 18, 2019, and officially open on May 2, playing a limited engagement through May 12, 2019.
