In that liminal space between life and death, Tsubame is visited by ghosts from both her American and Japanese pasts. She confronts the haunting question: had she ever really had the power to choose her life’s path, or had she always been a puppet to her destiny? Combining puppetry with Japanese funeral traditions, we witness each apparition try to resolve unresolved matters, yearning for closure to cross the threshold.
