PlayMakers Repertory Company opens its 2024/25 season with Lynn Nottage's Crumbs from the Table of Joy, a coming-of-age story set in 1950s Brooklyn. The play follows 17-year-old Ernestine Crump, who navigates the complexities of race and identity within her family as they transition from the South. Directed by Tia James, the production features Jasminn Johnson and students from the UNC Department of Dramatic Art, including Elizabeth Dye and Jadah Johnson. The arrival of the free-spirited Aunt Lily introduces tension and the promise of change to the Crump family's life.
