The North Carolina Theatre Company has announced principal casting for its upcoming production of the classic musical 'West Side Story', which will run from October 17-25 in the Raleigh Memorial Auditorium at the Progress Energy Center for the Performing Arts.

Starring in the show will be Josh Young as Tony, Catherine Jones as Maria, Leo Ash Evens as Riff, Asmeret Ghebremichael as Anita and Freddy Ramirez as Bernardo. The production is directed by Joshua Bergasse.

According to NCT notes, West Side Story is a "modern adaptation of William Shakespeare's Romeo & Juliet. The backdrop of the story is Manhattan, Tony and Maria are Romeo and Juliet. These star-crossed lovers are caught amidst racial tensions and violence as they struggle to stay together."

West Side Story has music by Leonard Bernstein, lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and a book by Arthur Laurents.
