Chapel Hill's Deep Dish Theater will host its second "Words to Music: Songwriters Up Close" event on Friday, June 12, at 8 PM. The event showcases intimate acoustic performances and engaging conversation about the songwriting process.

The lineup for this installment features three acclaimed local talents: Peter Holsapple (founding member of seminal NC pop combo the dBs, and later a touring member of R.E.M); Caitlin Cary (one third of the esteemed Tres Chicas but still equally well-known as a founding member and the vocalist/violinist in legendary, defunct alt-country band Whiskeytown); and Jon Shain (highly regarded throughout the eastern seaboard as a fine purveyor of folk-based, blues-inflected roots music and sought after locally as an instructor of Piedmont blues fingerstyle guitar).

The inaugural Songwriters Up Close event, held in January, proved to be a richly rewarding experience for audience and performers alike. "The first show went extremely well," said Doug Edmunds, also a long-time contributor to the local music scene who once again will host the event and facilitate the performances and discussion on stage. "The artists found the casual format and intimate setting very refreshing, and the resulting performances and conversation were fantastic," he added.

Doors at the 72-seat Deep Dish Theater, located in University Mall, will open at 7:30pm, with the show starting promptly at 8. Admission is $12. To purchase tickets, call the Deep Dish Box Office at 968-1515 or go online at www.deepdishtheater.org.
