Three stars from Andrew Lloyd Webber's The Phantom of the Opera will be performing at Raleigh's Duke Energy Center for the Performing Arts on Tuesday, November 29 at 7:30pm for a one-night only concert. All proceeds will benefit N.C. Baptists on Mission's flood recovery and relief efforts for North Carolinians impacted by Hurricane Matthew.
Craig Schulman, Ciaran Sheehan and Mark Jacoby are established Broadway veterans with significant Broadway credits. They have appeared in starring roles in shows such as LES MISERABLES, Finian's Rainbow, Ragtime, Carousel, Jekyll and Hyde, Wicked and many others. In addition, all three have performed the role of "Phantom" in Webber's masterpiece, Broadway's most successful show ever.
The three Phantoms are donating their time and talent to raise funds for the people devastated by Hurricane Matthew. "We want to raise the absolute most money that we can for the victims in North Carolina," Schulman said. "Seeing the destruction and devastation has touched us all."
Schulman is the only Broadway performer to appear as "Jean Valjean" in LES MISERABLES (3,000-plus shows), The Phantom of the Opera, and Jekyll and Hyde. Sheehan was "Marius" in LES MISERABLES and starred in Finian's Rainbow and Carousel. Jacoby received a Tony® nomination for Show Boat and starred in shows such as Wicked, Ragtime, Sweeney Todd and Sweet Charity. Schulman and a corps of fantastic Phantoms have performed Three Phantoms in Concert from coast to coast before sold out audiences.
Show 'N Tell Ministries, North Carolina Theatre and the City of Raleigh are combining efforts to bring the concert to the stage of Raleigh Memorial Auditorium. Patrons will enjoy a two-hour concert with musical favorites from shows including LES MISERABLES, Guys and Dolls, Jekyll & Hyde, Secret Garden, Man of La Mancha and many more including The Phantom of the Opera. The City of Raleigh is covering the majority of venue expense and Ticketmaster will be waiving a majority of its online fees. Generous support from presenting sponsors McDonald's local owners and operators and Duke Energy, The John William Pope Foundation and additional support from in-kind partners will ensure that 100 percent of the ticket purchase will go directly to flood relief and recovery.
N.C. Baptists on Mission will be careful stewards of these funds which will be used to purchase building materials for volunteers in rebuilding efforts in eastern North Carolina. The group plans to work in the flooded areas for the next two to three years and already has begun work, having served more than 300,000 meals.
